This time me and Brou were meeting a fellow NESkimite Nameless! He was gonna show up at 4, and me and Brou decided to get there early to see a bit of Danimal Cannon’s act. Danimal is Dan, who is also one of the guys in Metroid Metal which we had met and chilled with the night before.

Upon arrival, we caught a glimpse of a band called “Beebs and Her Money Makers.” I did not enjoy what I heard.

We had to go over to the Social from the Beacham to see Danimal, and when we got there we ran into the guy from Arm Cannon we had met the night before, as well as 3 of the members of Random Encounter (the 2 guitarists and the bassist) and the bass player from Metroid Metal!

We sat there shooting the shit with em as we waited for Danimal. Another band / act I have never heard of…

The dude used a fucking GAMEBOY to play techno sounding music, while playing his fucking guitar over top of it. IT WAS EPIC AND AMAZING. But we had to leave 10 minutes after the performance start to meet Nameless. I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND MY SACRIFICE NAMELESS.

Met Nameless at the parking garage and we made it back in time to see Brentalfloss and the Cartridge Family. Another band I have never seen. I was amused when I realized that the guys from Descendants of Erdrick were Brentalfloss’s backing bad. Turns out, Brentalfloss is amazingly funny and talented and I enjoyed every minute of his performance.

Day 2 was shaping up to be better then Day 1 was!

Next up, NO MORE KINGS. A band I specifically wanted to see! The performance was amazing, however the sound issues popped back up and made the vocal parts very hard to hear. But I got to hear all my favs. Leeroy and Me, Critical Hit, Sweep the Leg, Circle Gets the Square, ect.

I ran into Bruce from the NESkimos while I was wandering around after No More Kings, as the NESkimos were up next. He remembered me apparently, and when I asked if he was ready all he said was Fuck yea!

Me, Nameless, Dan, and Nameless’s (girlfriend? Friend?) got front row right up on the barricade seats as it were and watched the NESkimos setup.

I must say, the bass drum on Mario’s drums is hilarious. Satanic YOSHI! Dylans bass up close was really nice as well.

Finally…what I had been waiting for…the NESkimos. The crowd that filled in was jam fucking packed as well.

I am sure you all watched online…but let me tell ya. Seeing it live was something to behold. I want to see more now. The fucking wall of pure sound and metal was epic. I also was really impressed with the clarity of the instruments. It seemed like the NESkimos had avoided the sound problems everyone else was having that weekend, with the vocal parts being clear and easy to understand (and I got to hear Norfair Tenement Blues, FUCK YEA). Bruce is an excellent guitar player as well, and Dylan is a monster on that bass.

Overall, if I had to rank the bands from the 2 days it would be (in order from best to worst)

Neskimos / Random Encounter (tied)
Danimal Armcannon
Metroid Metal
Descendants of Erdrick
No More Kings
Brentalfloss
Protomen
The Megas / Sci Fried (tied)
Dual Core
Beebs and Her Money Makers

Now I just gotta wait till the NESkimos play a show again her in Orlando….SOON.

EDIT: Oh yea one other thing: I take back what I said about the PORTAL Vocals. The track you guys have on your soundcloud / bandcamp for Portal Still Alive does NOT do it justice. It was MUCH better live. Bruce has a great voice for it.

Very kind words hoof. Glad you had a good time. That was an exceptional venue. I think the highlight was all of us mindmelding on stage for smb3 and cutting and rearranging entire parts on the fly, literally as we were playing bc the venue was cutting our time short. Improv metal- a new feature available to you by the NESKimos.

You know, you are the only one of the band I did NOT meet in person :P At least I think.

NOT SURE ANYMORE.

Also: Holy shit you guys were improving SMB3? 0_o

I would rate the bands differently myself. Neskimos would still be top.

Really enjoyed No More Kings (I actually knew one of their songs, which kind of surprised me, since I forgot that I heard it on 8-Bit Radio and that it was their song, haha)

Neskimos sounded fucking awesome. I think that's the best sound quality I've ever heard them have.

I'm curious, how did they sound online? I had a little bit of trouble hearing Wily talk on the mic, but it sounded awesome when they were singing into it.

I also saw another band in The Social called Koo Koo Kangaroo, which Stomp and Brou missed out on. They were two 20s-something white guys with a bunch of back up dancers dressed as various animals and food items (hot dog, ketchup bottle, unicorn, spider, bumble bee, etc), and they had mics and a drum machine that played a beat for them, and they had like...white guy raps about unicorns, driving mini vans, baby crocodiles, rainbows, etc.

Oh, and they did a bunch of "When I say ____, you say _____!" shit, too, and really played to the crowd. They were a fucking blast, actually, haha.

Oh, and, fuck, Protomen was awesome doing their Queen stuff. Lots of energy.

And, I just want you guys to know. That keyboard chick in Protomen? Yeah, I would hit that so hard, it'd create a new element.

Gambler is pretty hot!

NESkimos sounded great over the internet too.

Saturday i noticed the vocals to several bands did sound muddy in person. I think they had them a lil lower than the other instruments.

I was front and center for the NESkimos, I am sure you saw me rocking out like a madman. It was a little overwhelming at the front, but it was awesome as fuck.

Brentalfloss is pretty funny, I've only spoken to him briefly every time I have. Yes, the Cartridge Family is members of Descendants of Erdrick, minus the flute player.

I had a blast and a half. wish I met some of the people from the forum here...I may have but..I had a high alcohol to blood ratio over the weekend.

We left after the NESkimos set, I talked to Bruce and introduced him to the Erdricks and they gave him a cd. Hit the hotel and loaded up, then headed back to Texas :\m/:

Heheh.

I think my wrist still hurts from snapping my arm up so fast to catch that T-shirt. Or maybe it was from throwing horns up so fiercely.

At least my neck doesn't hurt. My hair got tangled as fk from the headbanging, though. I had to go to Wal Mart late for conditioner, and it was Freaktown.

Fuckin right? I remember thinking so a few years back when I saw them at DragonCon, too. Didn't she used to have blonde hair or something? I remember a curvaceous blonde lady in that band at some point, haha.

Also, fuck, speaking of DragonCon, if the Neskimos got a show there, they'd rock the fucking house. You guys should seriously look into that for maybe DragonCon 2013 or something.

Also, didn't realize there were more forum people there at the show. I would've said hi if I knew that. I thought there was only like a core group of like 20 dudes around the forums, and maybe like 10 of us in Florida all together.

I think I did see a guy walk away with Mario's drum stick with like a "holy fuck, holy fuck awesome :awesome:" look on his face, though, haha.
