Does FOX actually own Facebook? I thought it was still Zuckerberg or something.

And I thought the way ads work was that you had to actually click them for anyone to actually get paid because of it.

it works like tv ratings do for television ads. except they can actually tell how much traffic a site gets. actual clicks on the ads net additional money, but it still costs a good amount of money to even place an ad on a high traffic site. the more traffic a site gets; the more that slot is worth. actual clicks on the ads generate additional revenue per unique IP.

i'm trying to dig up info on the ownership. i remember reading about a buy out by fox a number of years ago. looks like it went publicly traded.
there is this list:
http://thenextweb.com/facebook/2011/01/ ... ook-chart/
basically: zuckerburg, and a bunch of investment firms. i swore i'd read something about 3 years ago about s buyout by fox. though a few of these firms are about as bad as fox. goldman sachs is a pile of shit. accel partners is an interesting one. one guy is on the board of directors of wal-mart, another is involved with locheed martin, lots of bankers and marketers, some lawyers. haven't bothered looking through all of them. lots of people.

i guess going off of this info: it's not as bad, but 95% of that post remains unaffected. substitute "fox" for "any asshole with too much money and questionable intentions" and it's almost the same deal. though it seems impossible to look up much on some of these people without seeing 10 pages of results containing the same duplicated article. though it's not like that was ever the lynch pin.

if i wanted to make a case about big evil corporations:

i'd talk about rupert murdoch
http://front.moveon.org/look-at-everyth ... doch-owns/ (and that's not all of it either)
or halliburton, reuters, or the catholic church.

Yeeah, haha. Fallout seems to do that, doesn't he? He'll hop in, say hi, and then leave again for a few weeks or months, haha.

Oh, also, okay, last thing I'm gonna say about facebook: I'm living like 2 hours away from home right now, so I actually use it to talk to people I don't see often, organize seeing them when I'm away and coming back into town, etc.

Point being, you can say it's evil, but, it helps me not be crushingly lonely and homesick down at school, so, whatever.

take a look at everybody, find the intelligent and good hearted people, and say "so. how about that local sports team? you know. . .the one that does the stuff with a ball to score points." then talk to them. but first, deactivate your facebook account so you don't have one to give to them. then: keep talking. boom. friends in 3-4 days. ezpz.

in the words of a certain someone:

everything is always lonely and suck unless you have someone to fuck.

Death is the only way to truly be free. It's also pretty damn boring.

When I had a facebooks, I found that I never had anything really to talk about with my friends, since anything worth talking about was already posted, and now I've sorted out who are my real friends based on those who went to the effort to find another way to contact me, just to say hello. I think when it comes to interaction with friends, you shouldn't take the lazy road.

Oh, I've got friends down there at school, but I don't have a way to talk to my friends up here when I'm down there. So, FB is a hell of an easy way to keep in touch with all of them at once.

Also, we organize our D&D sessions through there, so, that's nice, too, haha.

You shouldn't be playing the wii-u. It's the most vile and dispicable system in the planet. You should not be able to play a TV console and poop at the same time... you know who used the living room TV and pooped at the same time? Rupert Murdock, you know who he owns? Fox network. You know who likes fox? Hitler... and there you have it... the wii-u is not better than Hitler.

Why would you support him? You should be supporting the indie game market, because only you can prevent forest fires.

It's funny because it's true, which is why nobody laughs at the holocaust.

I read all this using the Wii-U while on the can. My shit came out in the shape of a Star of David. Gentlemen, I am now a rabbi.

This just gave me an idea for a Judaism themed game, published by Ubisoft. RabbiU.

Someone make this! It could be the Bible Adventures of a new generation!

Re: Nameless88 and Facebook being "easy" -

Firstly, I pretty much agree with S1eepy. I think Facebook actually keeps you from having real social interactions, I don't like it.

But on being "easy" - I don't think it's "easy," I think it's "familiar." It's what you use, so it's what you prefer to keep using. You use what your friends use - back in the day, most of my friends used AIM, so I used AIM.

While I love collaborating via email, it's gotten a bad rep - for a lot of people, email is nothing but automated notices, junk/spam, and something grandma uses to send you photos you don't care about. A lot of people *hate* their email accounts, because it's all crap. Then they login to Facebook, they've got the messages they want to get. They get a picture of the person you're writing a message to, and they do everything by name instead of email address. They sync Facebook to their phone, now they've got everybody's phone numbers and didn't have to enter shit.

I actually went through a process to unsubscribe from mailing lists I don't wanna be on anymore, and got as many contacts as I could into gmail (phone numbers, email addresses, birthdays, pictures, everything). Once I did that, email became amazing. I sync my google account to my phone, and have all that contact data wherever I go. And, I can take all that data wherever I want pretty easily, if one day I decide that Google is being evil.

But it was a pretty legit effort to make that transfer off of Facebook, and most people can't be bothered -- everything's already there, and a lot of people don't see the benefit of getting off Facebook.

Thank you, I appreciate that. When I say it around a group of people (because I think it's a funny thing to say) there is always one person who does a double take, if they hadn't heard it before.
