Cid, Napalm and myself all became Farlandnauts tonight.

We tp'd to the "edge" of the map that people call the Far Lands.

I took us to the "corner" of the map. ~12 million x and z. I'm using the "quotes" because it does continue forever, but once you hit this mark, it's a giant vertical wall (pictured), that extends in tubes that going down slowly causes the world to lag to a halt. Also, it was full of monsters, that shit is scary. Basically, we went to a place so far away that the game just says "fuck it."

Surprisingly, didn't fuck up anything, and we were able to kind of survive out there. Things get really weird, it's laggy, you move in about 1 block phases instead of smooth movement, sand blocks stay in the air, then duplicate and fall diagonally. The selection outline for blocks is like half a block over. In the name of science, I tested out a block of TNT, and after about 30 seconds, it finally exploded. No animation for it, just the loud bang, and a crater.

Was it stupid? Probably. Could we have accidentally taken the map offline? I did some initial research, didn't seem like that'd happen. No worse than Daisy Crater or that time we blew up the mountain in Neskimox. We tested the waters first by teleporting to about 1,000,000,70,0 to see if it would be bearable there first. The selection outline wavers a tiny bit, but it's still pretty decent out there. The tall grass starts to sink into the blocks and become off center a bit, too, but that's about it.

It seems like the lag is just client side for being there. Cid and myself sat back after Napalm went first (his computer was reasoned to be the fastest between all of us, so I stood behind for extraction in case it made his game crash), Cid went next after we saw that Napalm could still talk, although he was saying that lag set messages about a minute delayed.

My only regret? I forgot to put a sign commemorating our landing out there.

We went to the moon and forgot to put our flag down. :coookieesssss:

Also, Fallout, don't be mad, it was for the lulz. And nothing bad happened because of it. :awesome:

I assume the linked photos are the farlands (end of the map) they are incredibly difficult to get to, and they usually show up like that.

edit: posted right as I did. makes me look like i can't read now >_>

Would I do it again? Probably not. Well, maybe, it was really cool.

Okay, I think I saw something that's more visually jarring than the Farlands.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comme ... materials/

Just, look at the picture album linked at the top. This guy somehow made an illusion of non-euclidean geometry in Minecraft.

That fucking ceiling, man. That thing actually made me feel kind of dizzy. :psyduck: First time anything in minecraft has done that. Fuck, that's amazing.

Using the cutting edge technology, our second mission to the Farlands was one of diplomacy and discovery. We erected a small totem, a symbol of our goodwill to the locals. We had only heard rumors of their existence, and fearing to anger them quickly donned our Farland Safety Helmets (TM).

A memorial plaque was set up to commemorate both journeys to the Farlands, too. Forever immortalizing Napalm Man, Cid Highwind, and myself as the first to visit the edge of our known universe. The second mission was given a memorial, too. We must never forget these brave souls who journeyed to the end of the X/Z coordinates.

This place is not one that our minds can understand:

Because we exist half a block over from where we should be, passing through a wall is no problem, and we can see that the caves extend to the bottom of the map:

Some of the screenshots were lost from this exploratory mission. I suspect Endermen took it, so we do not reveal all of their secrets before the necessary time.

Here's what we know so far:
TNT does work, however can be delayed from the lag.

Chests function correctly, there is no way to duplicate like in the old days.

Boats...boats suck out here, don't bother.

Sand does not fall from gravity, it instead stays in the air, and drops a second block of sand in one space over from where you placed it.

Water flows correctly.

Weather works correctly, although stops and starts slower from mod commands.

Flymod works correctly.

The farther back into the caves you go, the worse the lag becomes.

The caves extend to bedrock, and for the rest of the map past the border, it is nothing but those strange caves.

Pistons function, even push the blocks correctly. They're just a bit confusing to get connected to redstone, because of the glitching interface.

Any water present at the edge will extend to bedrock.

Further missions to the Farlands pending. Is this land hospitable? Only time will tell.

The funny thing, my good chap, is that the caves are all, uh, how do you say? Dark. Yes, yes, that's the word. And, uh, Endermen don't have whites in their eyes, or mouths, or in that regard, teeth, as they say. So, there might well be, but they're too dark to see. :wotwot: Jolly good.

A special thanks to Dfraz for the brown wool, because I could not find one fucking brown sheep.

EDIT: Also, I would've made him standing up but it seemed like that would've been even more difficult.

I think that it's awesome, man. We can also see it from the overhead map, too, which kicks ass. :awesome:

I kinda wanna do a cosplay of Magus, but get some Heelies so I can glide around a convention hall like a boss, haha.

That was the other reason I made it flat :D
If I find some good spots I think I'll do more Chrono Trigger stuff.

Seeing Magus gliding around like that would be hilariously awesome.

I wanted to do Lucca really bad (double entendre? Probably :coookieesssss: ), but I felt like parts of her being made of wood would've looked weird.
