As pointed out in the Happy thread, we don't really discuss sports here. I'm sure not everyone here is the stereotypical nerd who doesn't care if LeBron kicks a home run through the leg pads of the running back (I think I covered everything there) so I figured why not start a thread? Maybe it will lead to dedicated threads for each sport/league in the future during their respective seasons. I know hockey and basketball are nearing the end, but baseball is just starting up and the nfl draft is a current topic.

As you can see by my massive wall o' text in the happy thread, I'm a big hockey guy. NJ Devils fan, team in the semi-finals right now, feels good man. The only other sport I even remotely follow is football, and when I do watch, I'm a Giants fan. Giants won the Super Bowl... Hoping Devils can bring home a second 2012 championship for local sports teams and get the Stanley Cup.

I get pretty into The Bulls sometimes when NBA season is going on. Other than that, yeah, I sort of can't stand watching sports.

I try to keep up with football, both college and professional. This week has been all about the draft and how happy I am that the Jags drafted a badass wide receiver that they so desperately need. I'm also pretty all about the Seminoles, who are poised to take back the college football throne.

After that, I try (less successfully) to keep up with basketball, mostly professional. I like the Magic, and was really into Dwight Howard before the fucking childish shitstorm he caused this year. My love for Michael Jordan makes me still love the Bulls, and I like the Knicks and Celtics, too. If it seems odd that I like a group of rival teams, I point to any time the teams play each other. Gotta love all the bad blood and history. The playoffs are starting now, and there are so many injuries that it seems like a big toss up now.

Besides that, I'm rather apathetic towards hockey, and I'm outwardly hostile against baseball. Since I'm American, I've been trying to force myself to get into soccer for several years, but there are too many teams, leagues, cups, and blah blah to keep up with. The Champions League is ending soon (Go Bayern!), and I there's gonna be Euro this year, so that should be cool. Also, I've tried to keep up with international rugby, which is seriously awesome, but impossible to find in America.

When did this happen? I remember you being a pretty big baseball fan, at least during the home run battle between Sosa and McGwire.

Who wasn't? Also, wasn't that like 1998?

This. That was pretty much the coolest thing that ever happened in baseball. Once there wasn't some kind of awesome dinger-socking contest going on, I realized how goddamn boring baseball is. I still keep up with storylines and stuff (This year someone pitched a perfect game, which is pretty cool), but last year I managed to watch a new low amount of baseball. (I got home and turned on the TV to watch the last out of the World Series and then change the channel).

Despite all that, I still have a lot of love for Ken Griffey Jr.

I could see myself really enjoying Lacrosse. It is growing in popularity, so maybe soon there'll be a popular pro league....

I'm not sure if it's popular yet, but it exists, and I knew about it before reading this thread and googling it.

It's like a party in my mouth and everyone's invited!

I tend to follow a lot of golf. I kinda have to, though. I get a lot of shit if I ever refer to it as a "game" and not a "sport," and I'm conditioned to write PGA TOUR in all-caps, all the time.

MLL isn't even as popular as NCAA lacrosse, which is probably the least popular NCAA sport next to hockey. There's also the National Lacrosse League (NLL) which is even less popular than MLL (but used to be bigger). NLL is also an indoor league with slightly different rules.

We also need a proper lacrosse video game. And Blast Lacrosse doesn't count (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blast_Lacrosse).

I've heard that game is pretty meh. I'd love a full-fledged NCAA Lacrosse game with as much production value as an NHL 12 or Madden game.

i was thinking "we need a sports section" but then i went out of town.

Myself, Huge College Football fan, Florida Gators of course. I've been to every home game since 95 and have had season tickets since 97. We've traveled to every SEC stadium, Even UGA's which is very significant. The reason is because typically the UF UGA game is played in Jacksonville Florida on Neutral turf, BUT When Jacksonville got the Jaguars, they had to re do the stadium so Florida and Georgia had a once in a life time home and away series. Of course now, with the addition of Texas A&M and Missouri to the SEC, we have two new stadiums to visit.

For NFL, Im a Jags fan, but I also like the Green Bay Packers. Don't say im a band wagoner, cause officially I liked them before we had the jags. Being a Big gator fan, i also like to keep tabs on where gators play in the pros, so i like to see them do well.

I've also liked Hockey and in the past three years I've really gotten into it and finally found an NHL team that i love to root for. GO LIGHTNING! They have a great team of great guys. Hockey is one of those things that i am not too sure why more people aren't into it, its fast, its rough, and the players are great, and the teams seem to do a lot for their fan bases. But then again, people can say "I don't know why people dont like this sport" and it might be something i dont tend to get wrapped up in myself. Too each their own I suppose.

I also get sadistic glee when there are no Canadian teams left in the Stanley Cup Playoffs :P

Baseball, i've tried really hard to get into, but i just cant stay interested.

Soccer, I really only get interested during world cup... but it usually ends there.

I've recently become more fond of Tennis for some reason.

Basketball, I want to like too, but every time i watch it, it seems like the refs are way too powerful. They have such an effect on a game and you can watch two games and see calls and non calls that make zero sense.

Here in Korea I only keep up with the NFL and MMA. At home I would also follow Hockey. I do like to play Basketball and soccer but I loathe watching them.

Also Korean baseball games are way better in person than American games. Every player has a song chant. 90% of the teams are from parts of Seoul so their is also fan rivalry. Hot cheerleaders and best of all you can bring what ever food and drinks you want from outside.

Junior Seau killed himself. That sucks.

Oh, and in other news, golf sucks. As I've told people before, I like golf for one reason: taking a nap during the final round of the Masters each year is usually my best nap of that year. Other than that, now that Tiger Woods sucks, golf has just turned into a bunch of douchey guys in stupid outfits with Napalm Man doing IT for them.

Rangers just won a game last night 15 minutes into the 3rd Overtime. That's 5 minutes shy of playing two whole games in a row.

I imagine they are going to be exhausted. Has the violence been that bad this year or is that more media sensationalism.

And it was awesome! (although the game kept distracting me from a paper I had to write)

The first round series between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia got out of hand. Other than that, it's not so much violence as it is supplemental discipline being inconsistent.

In other news, Devils now lead the series over Philadelphia 2 games to one, and I can't stop laughing at this picture.
