Its KINDA funny. Its definitely Hockey. But i agree, Fuck the Panthers. :P

It was a little funny when it happened, but when the crowd realized there was no penalty called, we were FURIOUS. One of the loudest boos i've ever heard there.

You know what's fun? Trading a 9th overall draft pick for a player worth much more than a 9th overall draft pick. Deal with it, Vancouver :coookieesssss:

Yeah, no, this makes PERFECT sense, NHL
NHL.com wrote:
EASTERN CONFERENCE:
The Atlantic Division teams are: Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Red Wings have moved from the Western Conference to the Eastern.

The Metropolitan Division includes the three New York-area teams -- New York Rangers, New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils -- along with the Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets, who are joining the Red Wings in the move east.

WESTERN CONFERENCE:
The new Central Division in the Western Conference includes the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets, who are moving from the Eastern Conference to the Western.

The new Pacific Division includes the Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes, San Jose Sharks, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers.

The name "Atlantic Division" has only belonged to NJ, NYR, NYI, PHI, and PIT for the past 15 goddamn years. But no, give that name to a division with NONE of those teams in it. Because when I think "Atlantic" I think Detroit, Montreal, and Toronto. Not to mention that group of teams already made zero sense long before the new division names were announced. All of the Eastern Canada teams, Buffalo, Detroit, Boston, and.... Florida and Tampa Bay. Makes sense.

Not to mention the name "Metropolitan Division" just sounds stupid and out of place. I don't hate the name itself, but it just sticks out when the others are Central, Pacific, and Atlantic... Which were already names of divisions under the old alignment. They couldn't just come up with four new names? Or at least let the old Atlantic Division keep that name if you're dead set on naming a division Atlantic... I loved the Atlantic division name. For the past 5 years or so it has consistently been the most dominant division in the game. I think that alone should give them the right to keep the name...

I may be nitpicking... but just.... ugh.

ive noticed with a lot of "division" names in sports are silly. Look at the NFL, Indianapolis is in the AFC South?!

I'm just kind of pissed at losing the Atlantic name. I felt a sense of pride being in that division as it has been a very strong division for years. On top of that, we've got a few Atlantic Division Champions banners hanging in the rafters, and now the Atlantic Division doesn't include us or ANY of the teams that we beat to get them? To me, we will always be Atlantic Division.... at least for a few years until I get used to Metropolitan.

You lost the Atlantic name, but you got Jaromir Jagr! That would've been a good trade off in '96.

On an unrelated note, anyone wanna do that fantasy football league I was pitching awhile back? We need at least 8 teams, which I think is about how many regulars we have left on the boards...

I have almost no idea how the sport works apart from there being feet and a ball, would that be a problem?

Maybe. I may be doing another league with a few friends on top of our usual hockey league. I don't want to do too much fantasy.

Also, yes, we got Jaromir Jarg. Even at age 41, that's a good pickup. He's still a great scorer, which is something we really need. After Kovalfuck "retired" to go back to Russia and Clarkson went to Toronto this year, on top of Parise leaving last summer, we greatly need that scoring. He's one of the greatest players to ever play in the NHL and even if he doesn't pan out offensively the way we hope (read: finally shows his age,) he can at the very least teach the young guys a thing or two while he's here. Also, if he scores a lot and we keep him, great. If he doesn't, we can trade him at the deadline for draft picks, which would be helpful in a year where the Devils lose their first rouder (penalty for Kovalfuck's illegal contract 3 years ago.) So really, signing Jagr is a win-win. If he scores a lot, we win. If he doesn't, we trade him, aaaaand we win. Very smart move by one of the greatest GMs in all of North American sports.

Alright, I've got fantasy football fever, and the only prescription is a NESkimites league. Let's throw something together and have a draft sometime in the next 2 days.

if we get 8 guys, we can all have good teams and some good times.

Me
Crash
Neon Jackal
Bogey
Snifit

and...we need 3 more guys. It'll be good times for shit talk and macho bull crap. Anyone else wanna join, even with only a slight knowledge of/interest in football?

I can't guarantee that I'll be very active... if at all, really. Football and hockey overlap, and I'm usually in 2 fantasy hockey leagues. But if you need someone to fill a slot I guess I can do it and see how juggling 3 teams across 2 sports goes.

if you can do it through ESPN that way I can at least set a positional draft, in case i can't make it, that'd be awesome.

We've got 5 guys. Are there 3 more around here who would think about joining? Looking through the sports thread, there's not a whole lot of contributors, especially when you take away the guys who clearly aren't sports fans.

There had to be an even number, and I could cap it at 6, but the teams would all be crazy awesome.

There's a thing saying something is happening in 9 hours, but our thing isn't full, will this thing still happen or can I stay asleep? (9 hours from now is 10am in this timezone, which is early for me)

Well, looks like the league isn't gonna make it. The draft is in less than 3 hours, and we've still only got 5 guys. :cookieshmm:

So.............those Broncos look pretty damn sturdy. They didn't even use Welker and Denyrius Thomas all that much until the end, either.

Also, dumb play of the year already has a contender. I'm just hoping for Butt-Fumble II.
