BABY THREAD :o ~~~~ who'd have thunk it

Rather than having us mother-fuckers spread our crap all over the forum, I figured I'd get in before we could and get a good place for it. Most of this stuff is going to be written from the mother's perspective.

Here's my album of baby photos. https://picasaweb.google.com/1155504024 ... IGOQUILLS#

Love and partners: How has a co-parent supported your dedication to natural parenting — or not? A nice article about a mother's relationship with the father from pregnancy to after birth, and how their expectations of what having a child would be like were wrong.

A fascinatingly huge study on how a child learned to speak.

For your partner: How to Breastfeed. The "breastfeeding doesn't hurt" thing is entirely dependant on whether you get the latch right first time. While the nurses/midwives will help her with her first latch, they will be busy and bugger off, and when the baby dislodges she'll have to do it herself. My partner developed mastitis, which is excruciatingly painful, and the best way to avoid it is do everything right from the start.

Tummy Shield Seat belts are not only extremely uncomfortable for a pregnant woman, but in a crash are extremely dangerous to the unborn child. We have one of these. Here is a photo:

Babywearing Babywearing is the standard form of baby transport globally (as opposed to prams), and prior to the invention of the pram was the standard for us as well. The benefits mainly focus around not being detached from your child, and allowing them to be a part of your everyday routine.

Great movie to watch if your partner is feeling clucky. There's almost no dialogue, and it follows four babies in completely different situations from pre-birth to walking. You get to see the effect of the different parenting approaches (the american family reminded me of the smart couple at the start of Idiocracy, and they spoil Hattie rotten), and see contrasting ways of doing the same things. Very cute.

Hey, that movie is on Netflix. I watched it one time with my girlfriend. It's actually really cute and pretty enjoyable.

I don't really have anything to add to this thread yet.

I like that the baby thread has mother fucking in the title. I'm guessing that was on purpose. Clever stuff.

i'd be really interested in watching something that elaborates on what this movie would seem to graze.

take the different parenting models, show them in practice as children, and then skip ahead. see the person at 1-5, 10, 18, 22, 30. that would be some interesting shit.

It's called the Life series ;) http://www.abc.net.au/tv/life/about_the_series/

Quote:
The Life Series is made in conjunction with a long-term study - The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (‘Growing Up in Australia’) - in which 10,000 children have been placed under a sociological and scientific microscope.
They're up to 5 and they're going to 7.

Going to teenager, let alone past it, would be pretty pointless imo. There isn't a consistent variety in parenting approaches, and I'd like to think that by the time you're 30 your parents approach to raising you has ceased to make much of a difference to your life.

Babies is more or less depicting culture, which is what makes the Namibian and Mongolian babies so fascinating, and the Japanese family are hella cute of course.

Away We Go (2009)
A couple who is expecting their first child travel around the U.S. in order to find a perfect place to start their family. Along the way, they have misadventures and find fresh connections with an assortment of relatives and old friends who just might help them discover "home" on their own terms for the first time.

It's entertaining, and thought-provoking for a parent-to-be, but overall the writing is too weak to be called a story. We're going to watch it again. The highlight is Maggie Gyllenhall playing an insane hippie parent. (also: "You taste different")

I was so entranced by the amazing colourful waterbeads on this website that it took me a while to realise how awesome it is.

Tuesday night at 9pm, We go in, and attempt induction. Thats where they give noel hormones to attempt to cause labor and such. If that doesnt work, then C-Section time.

So unless her water breaks before then, april 3rd/4th is looking like the due date.
