So, bottom line is, I'm fucking broke as a joke right now.

This is NOT a solicitation for money. Even if someone offers, I won't give you my paypal address. Charity is not an option here. I just want ideas.

How can I make money, legally, a shit load of it, within a very short amount of time.

I want to make $5,000 within a month. I'll settle for $500 within a week, however.

I made a post on Reddit about this to try and get some ideas running. Here's a link.

http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comme ... large_sum/

Almost any idea is welcome, with the following limitation.

Part One - Limitations,

1 No jobs. I already have one and I'm getting a second. These are too slow for what I'm looking for.

2 Can't travel. I have a kid on the way and I must be local. A day-trip is fine, possibly even a single over-nighter, but that's pushing it.

3 NOTHING ILLEGAL.

4 I know it's legal, but no porn.

5 No gambling. There are poker and casino's in my area, but I'm not going to take that chance with the little money I have right now.

6 My credit is stretched to the limit right now. I can't get a loan.

Part two - Assets

1 I have a car, it runs well and can take long trips.

2 I have knowledge of mathematics and have tutored up to the calculus level before.

3 Water (I know it's a long shot, but /meh), I pay a flat rate per month for my water, so I can use however much I want. Don't know what that's worth at this point, but figure I'd put it here for completion sake.

4 Large yard - property is over 200 ft long along the back of the house. Plenty of space.

5 Pool - My house has a pool, holds about 20,000 gallons.

6 Ebay, Etsy, Amazon and Paypal accounts (no money in any right now, but available for use).

7 2 Car garage, currently full of junk that I'm sorting to try and sell.

8 Pressure Washer (already though about hiring myself out for side work) leaf blower and lawn mower.

So... Any ideas?

Unfortunately, I feel like, short of selling a bunch of your shit, you're kind of out of luck. If there was a way to make a bunch of money very quickly like that which was legal, we'd all probably know about it. :coookieesssss:

Don't you do those video-game themed bondoogle bead art things or whatever? Do you have a venue to sell a bunch of those very quickly? (I assume not or you would have done so already)

Etsy those?

Outside of that...ummmm...mow some old peoples lawns or shovel some snow? I mean, just the old high school type stuff. Look into paper routes or something like that?

i know it's a job, but i make $30/hour delivering pizzas on 4-5 hour shifts.

the wage is $10/hr, but i get double that in tips, which aren't taxed with income.
so if you want to get technical; i'm probably making closer to $37/hr.

the trick is; find a mom and pop place that sells food better than the general competition. you'll get people who are more excited to get their food, business will be pretty steady, resulting in better tips, and your boss probably wont be a a prick. also, the income taxing is different than corporate chains, so you'll make a lot more money.

i'm making more doing this than i would had i tried to get a job with my degree, sure, the shifts are shorter, but it leaves me with most of my free time and a looser structure to fit my days into. so to me, these jobs, have consistently been the best. chinese restaurants are also good to deliver for, but they tend to be a little bit more of an intense experience. if you'd end up at one of those: look for an area with lots of jewish people. no joke.

if you don't mind me asking: what do you need the money for?

Good point about the pizza. I've considered going back to waiting tables. I used to make about $27 an hour at the place I worked around 2003.

Well, my bills are mostly paid, but I have nothing extra right now. I need to have a buffer between my income and unseen expenses. My kid's gonna be born in about a week, and we'll owe about $3,000 to the hospital. The wife makes JUST enough money that we don't qualify for the medical supplimental shit.

Also, my cat is fucking sick as hell. If it was just me right now, I'd probably turn the cat over to a rescue shelter at this point, but the wife is really attached to the cat, and can't stress her out right before birth.

Luckily she found someone to help pay for the cat, otherwise we wouldn't have a cat anymore.

Edit : BTW, I'm doing better on ebay, and Nameless and I have got an idea for a kickstarter thing that actually sounds like it might get a lot of funding. We don't want to give away the surprise, however, as I'm sure pretty much everyone on the boards here will want to attend, as long as they can get to FL for it.

I'll have details soon. I'm talking with my dad about all the different permits we'll need. Also need to find some people to work security...

Shockingly sexy.

Also, the idea for the kickstarter isn't a con, but more like a precursor to ACC or something. It would be a one day event, and would fulfill a life-long fantasy of many, many nerds and non-nerds alike.

Total cost would be around $2,000 for everything. I need security, lifeguards, general workers and a film crew. I'm thinking Crash, Donnie and Brock for the film crew. Publicizing thought Robo Awesome would give you guys a boost as well.

Security, I'm thinking 3 people, cost about $500 total.

2 lifeguards for the day would cost around $300.

I would need new cameras, which would probably run a few hundred, let's call it $300.

Would need to pay the workers, probably about $100 each, so another $300 - $400. Let's call it $500 to be safe.

Buying the... supplies... would run about another $500. Might need special equipment to transport it all and set up, so another $500 to be safe.... and we'd be feeding everyone at the event, so another $500.

Wow, that's more like $3,600...

I think I can do this... I just need some corporate sponsorship. Hell, I got Dave and Buster's to just GIVE me a Wii last year in exchange for a 6' table at the con. Imagine what I can get out of a big company by making them the official sponsor?

Ok, not going to reveal all details yet, as I want to get the kickstarter arranged and try to get sponsorship before I set anything definite (don't want word leaking to the net and someone taking this idea). In the meantime, here's my question to everyone,

Crash - Want to document a huge nerd party on Robo Awesome?

Donnie / Brock - Want to get paid to make a short documentary on a party?

Spidey, and everyone else in the greater Jax area (also anyone who wants to come down for this) - Want to work security?

If it all works according to plan, I could probably pay everyone a bit for their efforts. I'd have to actually hire a few of the people from outside, and there's some permits to get, but I'm really optimistic about this! May not make any actual profit, the first time at least, but we could certainly set the basis for a larger scale event afterwards.

Oh wait! Maybe we could set up a stage and have a band or two play! If the kickstarter gets funded fully, we could even pay them!

Hey Neskimos! Want to possibly play at a party this summer?
