So, I was listening to Spotify (my Stoner Metal soundtrack), and somehow the new Mastodon popped up.

Now, Mastodon has always been highly overrated to me. Too much screaming, too many hipsters in love with it, etc.

But this is a great album. Phenomenal drumming, tight songs (I really like "Curl of the Burl"). I'm pleasantly surprised.

Sounds like Alice in Chains meets Kyuss.

I've always really liked Mastodon and I keep hearing people(supposed fans) say they don't like the new album. I think it's awesome, Curl of the Burl is an awesome song, they played it live when I saw them in February and it sounded sooooo good.

Crack The Skye is still a slightly better album, but yeah, I really dig The Hunter.

I like to tell my friends that Mastadon are The Beatles of our generation. They don't get it.

You know, it's too bad, because they've got good lyrics. And I typically think most lyrics are worthless. But it's the drummer. He can't stop doing that roll, every song is just a flurry of rolls and stick patterns. Just keep a beat man, lay it down and grove. If Dillinger Escape Plan and Between the Buried and Me can keep a straight forward drum beat so can you.

Not really. Prog is odd time signatures and complicated chord progressions. They don't do any of that. It's a stylistic thing.

I think Brann's drumming is one of the key factors why I like Mastodon.

I also like Dillinger Escape Plan, but some of their songs are just a clusterfuck of a mess to my ears.

Why should guitarists have all the fun?
