So, I need some help finding some more songs for a depressing metal mix cd. According to Nameless, I'm making a "Teenage Angst" cd.

No... No fucking Lincoln Pork, no 30 Butt-fucks to Mars (although I do love The Kill and don't give a fuck that Nameless thinks I'm a fag for it), no My Choleric Romance and no fucking Evashitanessence.

So far, I have the following,

Slipknot - Vermillion Pt 1
Metallica - Fade to Black
Avenged Sevenfold - I Won’t See You tonight part 1 and 2
Rammstein - Mutter
System of a Down - Soldier's Side

If you don't know the lyrics to Mutter, go look up the translation. I almost teared up when they did it live.

Any suggestions? I'm looking for metal, not soft songs like Vermillion Pt 2, Snuff, Hate Me, Under the Bridge, etc. I already have a nice list of those going for another CD.

I need the most depressing songs from each metal band you know of. Already got Slipknot, Metallica, Avenged, Rammstein and System. Looking for the most depressing song by bands that I'm not too familiar with besides their big hits,

Iron Maiden
Black Sabbath
Dream Theater (considered Sacrificed Sons, but that's too mellow)
Marylin Manson
Pantera
Korn
NIN
Disturbed

Or anyone else along those lines.

Are you looking for the songs themselves to be slower or just lyrical content? I'll have to refresh my memory of my angsty rock/nu-metal days, but I'm sure there's some Korn that fits that. And there's nothing wrong with 30 Seconds to Mars. I just wouldn't really consider them metal.

Also, someone made this mashup that i fucking love.

Iced Earth's Watching Over Me- This song happened to come up on my ipod on shuffle with frightening frequency around the time a good friend died.

If you're willing to accept other types of music, this song was literally the first song I heard (again, at random) right after hearing the above mentioned friend had died.

So for personal reasons, those last two songs mean a lot to me. They're kind of depressing on their own, but I listened to them a lot, mostly without even meaning to, during a time when I don't think I could relate to the songs any more.

Megadeth's A Tout Le Monde and In My Darkest Hour

In My Darkest Hour

That's all for now I guess.

Other than that, I guess Metallica's Unforgiven songs, maybe? Or To Live is to Die. Long instrumental, in memory of Cliff Burton.

I know little of your noometals, so I shall substitute other flavors. I specialize in the type of depression that carries with it a feeling of existential hopelessness and the resignation of one's ability to overcome the deep-seated ills that afflict the human race; not so much the kind involving relationships with other people.

Their first album, The Forlorn, is about a guy who murders his wife and child in a fit of religious madness, buries them beneath a tree by his house, then lives with the guilt of it for decades until he finally decides to throw himself off a cliff. So, pretty much anything on that album ought to work for you, too.

Or pretty much any black metal song ever; the list of recommended videos is a good place to start if this strikes your fancy.

Everything else by Swallow the Sun.
