So I figured I should start a place to share the drawings/comics/etc. I've found myself doing lately. All comments appreciated.

Working on coloring another comic. In the meantime, black and white art!

pro tip: try varying your brush sizes.
(be warned; sleepy is now charting your progress)

I don't use brushes, I draw with pencil than ink the lines with a Sharpie.

That and the scanner's inability to scan consistently give the color pictures weird lines.

You could try drawing in pencil, then scanning, and using Photoshop to outline everything. The only problem is you'd need to touch screen pc or a drawing tablet thing to really do it well.

I'm gonna get some better markers tomorrow and see how that helps. If I ever get a pad I'd just use the pad to draw rather than keep scanning.

Anyhow new comic:

Haven't had a chance to draw much new stuff but did get to color a previously scanned comic

EDIT- Ahh, resizing it did a serious number on the ugliness factor. Apologies. I will learn from this

A fine tip marker definitely comes in handy for getting those smaller lines. Colored version will follow but looking to see what response the black and white one will get.

improvement is definitely noted. your perspective on the train is the high point imo. you're probably getting close to where you can start playing with technique. after you find the one that is right for you (not to imply there is only one) you'll notice a big jump in quality*. right about then is the point where you'll have to decide if you enjoy the medium enough to dump somewhere around $200 on a set of super leet markers. i've used them enough to vouch that they are invaluable to anyone that can put them to full use.

*this usually takes some time to narrow down. hand position and grip you can't see by looking at a piece, but carry just as much importance as line style and weight. subtle changes often make the biggest difference.

Thanks sleepy, Not sure if I'm gonna get a whole set of markers. SO far digitally coloring seems to work pretty good.
I find it interesting the talk about "technique" and "style" though as I'm pretty much 98% self-taught. Not sure what exactly my style or technique would be aside from making it look right.

Anyways, as promised, color:

Love it! I bet if you find a nice book on drawing (or maybe a community college drawing class) you could get really good.

I have a simple book on cartoon design. I want to get one with something that has a bit more about form and anatomy, but still cartoony. I also think one of those drawing pose-able figures would be good to have. Honestly I think practice and practice will do the best job at this point. I know basically how to make shapes and sketch out figures I just need to hone my personal skills and experiment to find "my style."

Also:
In the year 20XX...
The World Robotics Convention is being held. Dr. Thomas Light attends to show the blueprints on his newest robot design "X."
Suddenly, without warning, many of the peaceful robots at the convention go haywire and attack. Amidst the chaos Dr. Light and his schematics disappear. In the distant sky Dr. Wily's Capsule can be seen floating away.
Four robots rise against the attack for their own reasons; to save the city, stop Dr. Wily, prove "X" is a weaker robot, and rescue Dr. Light.
All four must band together to stop Launch Man, Harvest Man, Torch Man, Toy Man, Sonic Man, Typhoon Man, Dragon Man, and Quake Man.

You have defeated Harvest Man! Get equipped with: Wheat Thresher!

I also find that copying an artist you like can be educational as well as enjoyable. I just finished copying one of Rembrandt's ink sketches and I've gotta say I'm walking away with a bit more knowledge of how to hatch and control ink. It's a good exercise that gets you looking more closely at the way YOU draw while discovering ways you might WANT to draw.
