So, everybody's got their own little topics around here, so I figured I'd post the few things that I've been painting. As a forewarning, these paintings are amateurish at best, lame and poorly conceived at their worst. Some are works in progress (I don't like how they turned out, and will add to them, or paint over them altogether.) I appreciate any feedback, even negative if I can construe it to be constructive. Also, any suggestions for stuff to paint from the big Nintendo series, or really any games are appreciated. And, now imageshack is being annoying, so you'll have to click pics for larger versions.

Super Shroom (my first painting)
Image
Fire Flower
Image
Starman
Image
Kuribo's Shoe (my Christmas gift to Snifit was a copy of this)
Image
Yoshi Egg
Image
The Legendary 3-up Moon
Image
And my Legend of Zelda series, starting with the Light Medallion
Image
Forest
Image
Fire (work in progress)
Image
Water
Image
Shadow
Image
Spirit
Image
Thingy from the Couple's Mask
Image
Design from the sail from Wind Waker
Image
And a look at my walls

So, yeah, I'm a big dork who figured out a creative way to express his dorkness that goes over well with his artsy fiancee. :awesome:

Unless Stank does comics for RoboAwesome now, too.

My comics aren't done in MS Paint...and I thought people liked them :(

But awesome paintings. And this is the corner of my dining room:

either way:
don't really have much to say. you get a thumbs up from me for being realistic in your assessment. if its something you enjoy; keep doing it. you'll eventually get better. personally though; i fucking hate paints. hands down my least favorite medium. can't stand using oil based mediums. inks, powders, pixels, papers, good clay; i like all of them.

want to know what i painted for my final in my painting class?
a quiznos napkin that i picked up right before class.
no, i did not copy the napkin design. i actually painted the design over its self. on the napkin. then handed that in.
that is how much i hate working with paints.

Oh dude, don't get me wrong, I like them, I just think that you have a ways to go as an artist. Don't mean to be insulting.

i would edit, but i wont since its not double posting.

if you want a tip: think of it in layers not shapes. if you overlap an edge don't worry about it. whats important is the consistency of intended detail in your color. most of your paint is too thin. when paint dries you can just paint over it if you need to. you can even sand it down a bit if you put it down too thick in spots.

also: watch a bunch of bob ross while stoned. but actually pay attention instead of staring at his fro. dude is a fucking wizard with paint. you'll learn a lot.

I like your comics, too, Snifit. If you note, I never drew my own stuff, I only ever used sprite art. I admire what you do because you're putting yourself out there, I just used pixel art that already existed. As long as you can write a decent story/plot/joke, I think that your web comic will be good. Hell, one of my favorite comics is Lego Robot, which is just stick figures, and Cyanide and Happiness which are kinda blobby stick figures.

Anyway, good stuff, too, Stank. Trying to get back on topic here, haha.

Yeah I know I suck, but that's why I'm trying to do more to get better :coookieesssss:

And Stank after looking at them more I REALLY like the emblems. Especially how you incorporated the different motifs for each one. The spiritual stones in the light medallion and the Serenade of Water in the water one in particular. They all look cool but the spirit one, I don't know, it feels like it doesn't have much. I get that its kind of in the sun but maybe if it had had like sand blowing in the background or the stone arch from in front of the temple...the sun just doesn't seem to tie in as well as the others.

Still, solid fucking work. I think I might have to commission a Zelda one to compliment my Kuribo's Shoe.

Dude, you read my mind about the Spirit one. I just didn't leave myself very much room to put anything else, and I couldn't think of what to put in there. I was thinking of like a Gerudo pole weapon or scimitar, or like you said, something else from the desert area. Given my painting abilities, some of that stuff is kinda tough to do.

Might be easier if you draw out a rough sketch of what you want to do on paper first. It should help with issues like running out of room or something.

Last time I painted was back in like...high school, 10th grade art class. So, I'm by no means an expert or anything. Just sayin, I'd treat it like any other creative thing: rough drafts can really help make the final look better.

can, but not always. i for one am incapable of drawing the same thing twice. i'm no repeat performer. my rough draft always becomes the final.

My problem is, if I draw something reallllly good the first time, and then go "Fuck. How am I gonna do that again?" That happens a lot, haha.

But, if you have trouble getting details down, it might be good to sketch it out a few times and see how that looks.

Granted, a pencil and a paint brush can be dramatically different from each other. So, you might not get the same results, anyway.

I've got a big painting I've been working on that I started by drawing it out with a lighter pencil on the canvas itself. Then its like paint by numbers. :coookieesssss:

Of course I still ran out of room but that was because my vision was too big for the canvas. :cookieshmm:

I used to draw a long time ago, like when I was 14ish or so, and I was told on numerous occasions that my work was fucking awesome. I found 3 or 4 of them a few months ago while cleaning out some stuff and was like "Holy shit, these are fucking awesome! Why didn't I minor in art or something?!?"

Then I remembered that none of them were original. Every time I drew I had a Dungeon's and Dragon's book in front of me and I was copying it onto something while drawing free-handed. If I try to draw from memory or make something original, it fucking blows ass. So kudos to you sir, for even though you think your work has a long way to go, you're drawing stuff that is formulated in your mind and not just directly copied from a page, and that is something I wish I could do.

I'm usually pretty good about spacing and planning and stuff, that Spirit Medallion just ended up off center for some reason. I'm trying to figure out a new set of paintings. I was playing Bomberman earlier, and would probably be able to sketch out a fireball and kick-bomb power up, but that's not exactly my favorite game series.

I still need to decide on something from the rest of the Zelda series:
Zelda
Adventure of Link
Link to the Past
Minish Cap (Probably gonna paint Ezlo, or the gust jar, or perhaps a completed Kinstone)
Twilight Princess (Probably Gale Boomerang)
(Also, I exclude Awakening and Oracles and the DS ones because I haven't played them)

I'm also brainstorming a Megaman series. I'll probably choose my favorite robot master from 2-6, 9, and 10. If anyone has better ideas, enemies, items, or otherwise, I'd be receptive.

what about doing part of a stage on multiple panels? snake man and elect man have some good spots for this. bubble man would be pretty neat too.

So, yeah, been working on some things tonight.

Ezlo, the less-annoying-and-infinitely-more-awesome-than-Navi companion from The Minish Cap.
Image
The Gale Boomerang from Twilight Princess. Not necessarily my best work, but it's tough to simplify the details from TP, and it's tough to use such dull colors.
Image
And finally, the very first Zelda item.
Image
Also, somehow my P-wing didn't make it into the first batch of pics. So there.
Image

:awesome: ?

I think the Gale Boomerang turned out pretty good actually. Just enough detail to show what it is but still in your kind of lighter style.

And that Ezlo...damn.
