A few friends and I decided to start a gaming podcast. So far we've been going weekly. We've also added to the site with comics by us and reviews and soon to have extra writings and musings.

If you guys wanted to check it out, like us on the various social media sites, and give us a listen that'd be pretty cool.

The podcast:

The main site:

Neat-o! I'll give it a listen on the drive home from work today.

EDIT:

Those of you who want the Podcast RSS feed: http://eightbitgamers.podbean.com/feed/

(I'd recommend putting this link somewhere on the podcast page, for those of us that don't use iTunes)

Also, it looks like the embedded players on your podcast page are only playing the latest episode (episode 05). The older ones just sit there forever. Looks like iTunes is reporting errors on those, as is my Android, and I'm getting 404 errors when I try to download the MP3 files manually. Latest episode downloads fine, though.

EDIT2

Here's some stuff you can give your web guys. It's me doing headers for episodes 5 and 4.

Episode 5 gets me an MP3, episode 4 redirect me to a 404 page (but, interestingly, it doesn't actually return a 404 error code)

Thanks for the info. I forwarded it all along to Stephen. We switched over the first four episodes with slightly smaller files so that caused a hiccup. Things should be good now. We're also looking at installing a plain RSS feed link on the main site.

We also have 11 subscribers on itunes :awesome:

Yay!

So, I listened to episode 5, and I liked it.

There were three technical things, though. I'm guessing you're using Skype, and recording from the "stereo mix" device on somebody's computer (aka "What U Hear" mode or whatever they call it).

1) The volume of people speaking is really, really low, which is fine, except that the guy recording had audio notifications on. And they are really, really loud.

I had the volume cranked way the fuck up while listening in my car, and suddenly I heard a really, really loud Mario coin sound, along with that "alert" sound from Metal Gear Solid. Make sure that guy disables those sounds next time.

2) I'm pretty confident at least one guy was recording with his laptop's built-in microphone. It's worth investing in a microphone + headphones. They don't even have to be good -- nearly anything is better than the laptop built-in mic (I use a mic that I got at Wal-Mart for $8), and headphones help a LOT with the sound quality (since Skype doesn't have to work so hard to cancel out what's coming out of your speakers).

A solid headset like this http://www.target.com/p/logitech-clearc ... microphone will help a lot.

3) One guy's audio kept getting choppy, and I had no idea what he was saying most of the time.

The only way I can think to fix that is to look into other remote-chatting solutions. Mumble just released a new version this month, and it's supposed to have amazing audio quality now. You can get the client at http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Main_Page and setup a free server at https://www.mymumble.com - might be worth playing with.

EDIT: Looks like some dude's been doing Mumble for his podcasts and loves it: http://hetzel.net/2013-01-22/setting-up ... o-quality/ and http://hetzel.net/2012-12-20/replacing- ... -and-opus/

EDIT EDIT: Also just found this amazing-looking service. EZ-mode mastering of audio, geared toward podcasters: https://auphonic.com/landing

This last episode was filled with technical issues. I thought I had pitched the sound effects down, but I guess not. I would definitely not recommend thinking episode 5 is our standard.

We're, well I'M, still experimenting on the best way to record. This last one was rough due to storm and other issues. Others will be more in line with the first few.

I'll give an older episode a listen, then! Again, I did enjoy it.

I know a heck of a lot about the technical aspects of audio/video and internet-y things, I'd love to help out with any parts of that.

Also, if you're looking to get a fourth guy in *cough cough we live in the same time zone now cough cough*

With respect, I have the audio part down. It's the internet issues that I'm a little shaky on. The actual editing and equalizing is no problem. After all, that's what I got my degree in ;)

As for guests, Stephen (who's kind of the head guy) has said because I'm doing all the recording.editing.techie aspects I have full say on who can and can't be on the show. I'd love to have guests but I kinda want to get settled into a groove before adding more people.

Yeah yeah, no, that's what I meant. When I say I know technical parts, I mean, y'know, latency, bitrates, that level of technical. I know virtually nothing, for example, on how to properly EQ something, or what makes for good editing. But I *do* know how to get file sizes down with good audio quality, that kinda stuff, would love to help with all that. Plus internet things.

EDIT

Just discovered this badass feature:
http://blog.mumble.info/for-the-record/

You can have Mumble record each user's audio to their own file .

If you guys haven't been keeping up, we have successfully trumped all audio issues and are sounding better than ever. Now is the perfect time to give a listen.

We're also doing a mailbag episode. If you guys want to send a question you can either email it (podcast@8bitgamers.net) tweet it (#ask8bitgamers) or comment on facebook (facebook.com/8bitpodcast)

We really do appreciate all support and look forward to any questions.
