Yeah my daughter will watch in the Machete order. Like Machete explains in his blog, Jake loyd and Jar Jar, were pretty terrible. No one wanted to see Vader as kid, the age gap between Anakin and padme is strange, trade disputes are confusing( for children) and dumb and Jar Jar is terrible.

The article is pretty compelling. Vader's reveal to Luke is not spoiled, no one questions who the weird guy next to Obi-wan and Yoda is and Jar Jar sucks.

Episode I should be filed with some of the extended universe stuff, like the Holiday Special.

The prequels are objectively awful movies, with the possible exception of Episode 1 which is more just mediocre. They would be terrible if no other movie with "Star Wars" in the title ever existed. This has nothing to do with nostalgia. I'm somewhat ambivalent towards the original trilogy, to be honest. I like them, but don't view them as some sort of cinematic masterpiece or anything. I hate the prequels not because of what they "did to Star Wars" or whatever, but because THEY'RE BAD.

Attack of the Clones makes up almost a full 1/3 of the 2/3rds bad. By your trail mix comparison, the Yoda fight was the only M&M in the bag, and it tasted a lot like fan service.

um... Obi-wan versus Jango was pretty badass too. The construction of the clone army was sweet. Don't forget Anakin slaughtering Tusken Raiders.

also, Revenge of the Sith was pretty awesome in every way.

I have no intention of showing my kids the prequel movies, unless they ask. The original is damn famous for a reason, and the sequels are far greater constructed than anything else. Except the viet cong ewoks. Which I'm sure my kids will love.

The download is for an AVCHD ISO -- so you're supposed to burn it to a DVD and play it on your bluray player.

Or you can just find the .m2ts file on the disc and remux it to an MKV file, which is what I did. Works like a champ.

I mounted the .iso and ripped the video file. Now I just need to convert it to a smaller file. I couldn't find any torrents with just .avi or .mkv files for the 720p rips.

You don't have to convert anything, unless you want to.

You can take the .m2ts file, load it into mkvtoolnix and put it into an MKV without and reencoding/converting -- http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoo ... -setup.exe

The video stream is already H.264/x264, and the audio is AC3. No need to convert (again, unless you want a smaller file). You could make it a tad smaller by not including audio streams you don't want (like, I don't particularly want the Czech audio dub), but the audio streams are really just a drop in the bucket (you'll shave like, 50-100 megs of an 8gig file).

I put videos on my external HD and watch 'em on my PS3 (which doesn't support .mkv), so I usually use mkv2vob to convert .mkv files to watch on my PS3. 8GB is big for a two-hour 720p rip though (at least compared to other files I've seen). I really need to invest in a 2TB external and just fill it with everything I could ever want to watch. Right now I'm working with a 120GB external, so the original trilogy (3 movies at 24GB total) takes up a lot of space.

I think there's a way to get PS3 to run .mkv files, but it might require homebrew. Not sure. My roommate had something like that going.

Hmm. PS3 can't read a .m2ts file?

Or, even better, just burn the ISO files to dual-layer DVDs? THat's *exactly* what they're meant for, and the PS3 should be able to play that natively.

Don't know if the PS3 can rock the .m2ts files, I'll have to try it out. I would burn the discs but I don't have a dual-layer DVD burner. If not i'll have to convert... and then convert again. Not too big a deal. I already watched parts of A New Hope. My heart erupted in nostalgia as I watched Han shoot first. It was glorious.

My children shall watch the movies in the same order in which I did and around the same ages.

Return of the Jedi : Age 1-2
A New Hope : Age 5ish
Empire : 8?

Then all three in the re-mastered editions when the hit theaters when I was in my teens, and then Episode 1 - 3 in the right order. Doing so will teach them the following lessons.

1 : Ewoks are adorable and intended mostly to entertain the kids.
2 : Vader is a bad man, and you shouldn't put up with bad men.
3 : Empire : That's some dark shit. Also, the out-of-order of the movies will let them piece together the confusion into a solid storyline. It will teach problem solving skills.

4 : They will learn to love something, then learn to HATE what the Lucas did to us with Jar Jar.

5 : Disappointment. Get used to it, kids. Remakes and sequels or prequels are rarely as good as the original, and if it is, you should fucking cherish them.

6 : They will learn to hate Jar Jar, the shitty love story in episode 2, the "NO" in Sith, but they will love the fight choreography and the special effects that came later. Although they will dislike the scrips of the prequels, they will appreciate that Lucas hired some actors that could swing a light-saber with some style.

that is actually genius, i never thought about it that in depth, that's probably what'll happen.

It's actually the exact same review, just in 3D.

Just like the Phantom Menace in 3D.

Show the OT first. I know the viewing order makes sense but she should see it the way we saw it ;)
